Greg Williamson
Beer

A mildly alcoholic beverage
Made from a malted, farinaceous grain
Combined with choice hops and allowed to age,
Beer’s “proof God loves us” (Franklin), and we’d fain

Have beer, beer’s having given us so much,
Beer bong, beer gut and goggles, beer-induced
Liaisons, bless its beery heart—a crutch?
No way, man, (beer me) you are getting juiced

Until you split to meet the great Beer Man,
Himself, it’s Party Time (they serve
An ice cold draft) and you’re a legend here,
Immortalized in stone, an artisan,
Artiste—the grit, the showmanship, the verve,
And your last words, “Watch this, man.
                                                        Hold my beer.”
